Fanfiction Survey

1. How did you first get into writing fanfic, and what was the first fandom you wrote for? What do you think it was about that fandom, that pulled you in?

- I already had a passion for writing, but it was mostly script writing about me and my friends. Then I accidentally came upon anime fanfiction on the internet while I was searching up characters for the animes I was watching on TV (how I missed those days). Through reading those fanfics, I thought about creating my own. Sadly, my first attempt had me bashed by the authors and readers there. But as you can see, I never gave up.

I didn't post my fanfics until high school, but I believe the first fandom I wrote for was either Inu Yasha or Yu Yu Hakusho. The reason might be because I was still watching them on TV.

2. Name the fandoms you've written in and how much you've written in that fandom, and if you still write in it.

- DN Angel (6 stories written and uncontinued), Yu Yu Hakusho (4 stories written and uncontinued), Yu-Gi-Oh! (8 stories written and uncontinued), Naruto (18 stories written and uncontinued), Rurouni Kenshin (5 stories written and uncontinued), S-CRY-eD (6 stories written and uncontinued), Inu Yasha (1 story written and uncontinued), Digimon (1 story written and uncontinued), Sailor Moon (3 stories written and uncontinued), Fruits Basket (35 stories and uncontinued), Pandora Hearts (4 stories written and uncontinued), Twilight (1 story written and uncontinued), Katekyo Hitman Reborn (2 stories written and uncontinued), DBSK (41 stories written and currently writing)

3. For each of the fandoms above, what were your favorite characters to write?

- Dn Angel (Riku Harada), YYH (None), Yu-Gi-Oh! (Jounouchi Katsuya and Seto Kaiba), Naruto (None), Rurouni Kenshin (Aoshi Shinomori), S-CRY-eD (Mimori Kiryuu and Ryuhou Tairen), Inu Yasha (None), Digimon (None), Sailor Moon (Serena/Usagi and Haruka Tenou), Fruits Basket (Kyou Sohma, Yuki Sohma, and Hatsuharu Sohma), Pandora Hearts (Gil Nightray), Twilight (Jacob Black), Katekyo Hitman Reborn (Lambo and Reborn), DBSK (Jaejoong, Changmin, and Yoochun)

4. Do you have a "muse" character that speaks to you more than others, or that tries to push their way in, even when the fic isn't about them? Who are they, and why did that character became your muse?

- My muse isn't a character, more like a feeling. It likes to come and go as it pleases.

5. If you have ever had a character try to push their way into a fic, whether your "muse" or not, what did you do about it?

- Sometimes, I let characters in if the plot isn't tightly woven. But if a certain character wants in, but the plot doesn't need them, then they can't be allowed to appear in the story.

6. When you write, do you prefer writing male or female characters?

- As of right now, male characters.

7. Have you ever had a fic change your opinion of a character?

- No.

8. Do you write OCs? And if so, what do you do to make certain they're not Mary Sues. And if not, explain your thoughts on OCs.

- I do add some random people, but I include them in a way that doesn't make them into mary sues.

9. Pairings - For each of the fandoms from # 2, what are your three favorite pairings to write?

- DN Angel (Dark/Riku, Satoshi/Riku, Satoshi/Risa), Yu Yu Hakusho (None), Yu-Gi-Oh! (Kaiba/Jounouchi, Kaiba/Jounouchi/Atem, Duke Devlin/Anzu), Naruto (Sasuke/Naruto), Rurouni Kenshin (Kenshin/Kaoru, Aoshi/Sano, Saitoh/Sano), S-CRY-eD (Ryuhou/Mimori, Kazuma/Mimori), Inu Yasha (Sesshoumaru/Kagome), Digimon (None), Sailor Moon (Haruka/Usagi, Haruka/Yaten), Fruits Basket (Yuki/Kyou, Hatsuharu/Kyou, Hatori/Ayame), Pandora Hearts (Elliot/Gil, Oz/Gil), Twilight (Edward/Jacob), Katekyo Hitman Reborn (Reborn/Lambo, Colonello/Lambo, Hibari/Fon), DBSK (Changmin/Jaejoong, Changmin/Yoochun)

10. Pairings - Have you ever gone outside your comfort zone and written a pairing you liked, but found you couldn't write? Or a pairing you didn't like, and found you could write?

- I have. The plot determines what story I write, not the pairings.

11. Genre - Do you prefer certain genres of fanfic when you're writing? What kind do you tend to write most?

- I do. I tend to write Mystery, Tragedy, and Angst. I find Romance very hard to write.

12. Have you ever attempted an "adaptation" fanfic of a favorite book or movie but set in a different fandom?

- I have, but I tend to keep it to myself, rather than upload it on the net.

13. Do you prefer canon or fanon when you write? Has writing fanfic for a fandom changed the way you see some or even all of the original source material?

- For anime and movie/TV show fanfics, it's easy to write in canon. But for bandfics where there's no canon to begin with, it's really hard to pinpoint exactly what their personality is like and how they interact with others. It's all speculation, so there's no choice but to write in fanon. =/

14. Ratings - How high are you comfortable with going? Have you ever written higher? If you're comfortable with NC-17, have you ever been shocked by finding that the story you're writing is G-rated instead?

- It depends on the plot. I'm fine with the extremes, but I can't say about my readers. I rarely write in the PG or G ratings, but when I do, I'm not shocked about it. It's just how the story planned out.

15. Warnings - What do you feel is most important to warn for, and what's the strangest thing you've warned for in a fanfic?

- Anything that makes the reader uncomfortable whether it's blood that makes them squemish, male-pregnancies that defies logic to the real world, character deaths because they don't want to have their mood brought down, or incest because it's wrong.

Other than what i've stated above, I don't think I've had to warn about anything else.

16. Summaries - Do you like them or hate them? How do you come up with them, if you use them?

- I like summaries. It should be the first thing that attracts your reader to the story rather than the first line in your first chapter.

Usually I write summaries before I start the story and it's good to have the idea fleshed out before you make a summary, then it's easier to come up with something to draw your readers in.

17. Titles - Are they the bane of your existence or the easiest part of the fanfic? Also, if you do write chapter fanfics, do you give each chapter a title or not?

- Coming up with titles, sometimes can be most stressful. Back when I started, I used to title each chapter, but now I don't.

18. Where do you get the most inspiration for your fanfics from?

- Experiences, beliefs, opinions, music, and sometimes when I'm stuck I visit writing websites to get ideas from prompts.

19. When you have plot bunnies, do you sit down and start writing right away or do you write down the idea for further use?

- If I'm already busy with a large story, I tend to write the idea down, flesh it out a little and save it somewhere so I can come back to it.

20. Do you ever get overwhelmed with ideas from other people's stories or art in the same fandom?

- Rarely.

21. Sequels - Have you ever written a sequel to a fanfic you wrote? And if so, why? And if not, how do you feel about sequels?

- A few, just to tie up some knots that the prequel failed to address.

22. Have you ever participated in a fest or a Big Bang/ If so, write about your favorite experience in relation to one. If not, are there any you've thought about doing? And if not, why not?

- I don't know what is it to begin with.

23. When you post, where do you post to? Just your journal? Just an archive? Your own personal site?

- When I posted my anime fanfics, I posted them at Lunaescence and Fanfiction.Net. While I post my DBSK fanfics here on LiveJournal.

24. Betaing - How many betas do you like to use to make sure there aren't any major flaws in your fanfic? Do you have a Beta horror story or dream story?

- I don't use beta's because I don't trust anyone looking at my stories. But I did get a beta once and her only concern with me was that I need to work on my descriptions more.

25. Music - Do you listen to music while you write? Do you make playlists to get into a certain "mood" to write your fanfic? Do you need noise in general? Or do you need it completely quiet?

- I can work with noise and in complete silence. But the noise that I prefer are music. The sound of children, cars honking, dogs barking, dishes washing, and hammer on wood will distract me from being in-sync with my characters and the story.

26. What is the oddest (or funniest) thing you've had to research for a fanfic?

- I've researched on drugs, diseases, sex positions and sex games, but they're not odd or funny . . . are they?

27. Where is your favorite place to write, and do you write by hand or on the computer?

- I don't have a favorite place to write. But I've found that I tend to write more when I'm at school because of the limited time I have between classes, which forces me to write something. And I like it better when I type on the computer than write long-handed.

28. Have you ever collaborated with anyone else, whether writing together or having an artist work on a piece about your fic?

- I haven't collaborated, but I really want to. I know I'm not that well-known in the fandom since I'm fairly new . . . So I hope that one day I will get the chance to write with someone on a story because it sounds like fun. ^_^

29. What is your current project(s)?

- A chaptered story called "Only You", which spawned from what my Biology teacher said about humans only being born for the sake of procreating. And mentally, I disagreed with him. Instead of speaking up and rebuttling his statement, I'm here writing this story, which the original plot was given by Serkadios@nanowrimo.org

30. Do you have a favorite fic you've written? What makes it your favorite?

- I really like "Beat Against Me" and "Undo Your Disease", both which have a dark theme to it. And lately, I've been wanting to write such stories but haven't found the right plot. I love it when I get to write someone who is mentally disturbed.
