A/N: I couldn't wait to write this chapter and reveal Jaejoong's past. But at the same time, it filled my mind with a lot of depressing emotions. So just a warning, there's a lot of angst here.

"Ouch!" Jaejoong scraped his knee on the ground at the harsh shove in the back. Junsu also landed on his hands and knees next to him. Their floor officer looked down at them critically.
"This is the 18th breeding week in a row, that you've missed. Are you really adamant on defying our rules?"
"Your rules are shit," Jaejoong spat with venom. Their floor officer chuckled, squatting down so that he was eye-leveled with Jaejoong and brandished a small knife,
"Should I change your punishment again? I really want to see what you look like when I carve up your pretty face."
"Carve up my face!" Junsu shouted next to Jaejoong. Their floor officer casted a glance at the other boy,
"Don't worry, you'll get your turn. I promise."
Junsu growled dangerously when the knife dug into the pale cheek and a line of red was seen. Despite the shallow cut, Jaejoong stared hard at their floor officer without losing composure. The man sneered and brought the knife up to Jaejoong's face again,
"I really hate your eyes."
"Stop!" Junsu shouted when the knife got too close to his boyfriend's eyes. The man smirked and withdrew his knife,
"Looks like your lover cares more about you than you do about yourself. Do you really want to die?"
"No matter how harsh your punishments are, there is no way that I'll follow your stupid rules. And even if you do try to change my mind, have you forgotten a woman's natural instinct to care? It'll defy what you're trying to take away from us. So, cut me up. Because either way, things won't go how you want them to."
The man kicked Jaejoong in the shoulder with a growl, knocking him down,
"I really hate your type the most. The confidence you have now, I'm going to strip it away until you're left with a quivering shell."
Jaejoong clenched his teeth as he laid there, letting the sharp blade slice his skin over and over again. Junsu, who had his usual punishment, crawled over to Jaejoong's still body when their floor officer finally left the room.
"Jae . . ." Junsu lifted his body with difficulty so that he could hover over the older boy and peered down worriedly at the bloodied body littered with deep and shallow cuts. Jaejoong cracked a pained smile,
"Su . . . I don't think I can move . . ."
"You're so stupid!" Junsu shouted, a tear ran down his cheek, "Why did you have to aggravate him?!"
Jaejoong winced in pain when he tried to move his arm to wipe away the tears,
"I wanted to let him know that his actions in trying to control us is futile. He'll have to break our soul before we ever conform to his rules."
Junsu grasped the hand that lay on his cheek, "Stupid! Stupid! Stupid!"
Jaejoong chuckled and hissed in pain, "Help me?"
Junsu nodded and wiped away his tears. He carefully pulled Jaejoong into a sitting position before slowly getting them up on their two feet.
"You can lean on my shoulder," Junsu offered but Jaejoong kept a small distance between them,
"Can't. Other people will see."
"Other people will be too dead to even care," Junsu said back.
"And what about the other floor officers? Surely they aren't dead to the environment around them," Jaejoong argued. Junsu sighed with irritation,
"You talk too much for someone who lost a lot of blood. Fine, if you don't want to lean on me, then holding hands will have to do."
"Junsu," Jaejoong said sternly, but he felt a hand slide next to his. Junsu smiled sadly,
"Are you really ashamed? I would do anything for you, and yet you don't even understand how much I really care about you."
Jaejoong looked down at their loosely, linked hands and his features softened,
"You know the reason why I can't fall as deeply into this relationship as you want me to. You know why."
Junsu closed his eyes. He did know. But as more time passed, the more selfish he got. He wanted Jaejoong to open his eyes to the present and see that he was next to him now.
"Can't you try to see me?" Junsu whispered. Jaejoong chuckled balefully,
"I thought you said that you'd wait for me no matter how long it takes?"
"Because!"
"Because?" Jaejoong inquired at the pouty look his boyfriend was showing. Junsu looked away and tightened his grip on their linked hands,
"Because you've already become a part of my life that I can't live without."
"I'm sorry . . ." Jaejoong said after a while. To hear that Junsu cared about him that much, made him feel guilty for not putting in as much effort into their relationship as he should have. And he realized now, that it was the reason why their relationship had become so unbalanced lately.
"What are you sorry for?" Junsu whispered.
"I'm sorry that you have to love someone who's still holding onto their past," Jaejoong said.
Junsu squeezed their linked hands again, "No. It's me who should be sorry."

Yoochun only had a handful of minutes to get himself together just as the last batch of guys from his group started their breeding session. He began pulling on his clothes with shaking hands and avoided looking at the janitor who was mopping up his mess on the floor. He regret letting his anger take over. He regret that his partner happened to be a virgin, a newbie of only 16-years old.
"I'm sorry . . . I'm sorry . . ." Yoochun muttered a series of apologies under his breath as he followed his group back to the dorms. When they arrived, instead of returning back to his room, he headed up to the 4th floor. There, was a room where he felt the most comfortable in. It was his original room that he used to share with Jaejoong. He huddled on Jaejoong's bed with Jaejoong's favorite quilt in his hands. He wanted consoling. He wanted to be told that everything would be alright.
"Yoochun . . ."
At the voice of his now favorite person, he felt relieved. But one look at the two figures in the doorway and of the blood covering them, Yoochun was again reminded of the inhumane act he had committed just minutes ago.
"Please . . . Please . . ."
"Yoochun . . ." Junsu walked over to the huddled figure on the bed. Yoochun tried to curl within himself when he felt the other boy's presence near him,
"Please . . . Please forgive me . . ."
"Forgive you for what?" Junsu whispered with a hand on Yoochun's shoulder. Yoochun flinched at the touch and scooted away,
"Please . . . No more blood . . ."
"Blood?" Junsu wondered.
"Something must've happened," Jaejoong sighed, leaning against the doorway. Junsu frowned and scooted closer to Yoochun,
"If we clean up, will you tell us what's wrong?"
Yoochun remained silent and Junsu looked worriedly at Jaejoong who sighed again,
"Come on, let's clean up."
When they returned back to their room after washing off the blood, they found Yoochun asleep on Jaejoong's bed with the quilt clutched tightly in his hands. Junsu smiled softly at the sight,
"He must've been exhausted."
"Then he should've returned to his room. Instead, he comes crying to us without an explanation and then expect us to provide a bed for him," Jaejoong huffed. Junsu pressed one of his boyfriend's cut on his arm and Jaejoong flinched away
with a hiss,
"What was that for?"
Junsu frowned, "Something big must've happened for him to seek us out. So don't say something so rude. He is your soulmate after all."
"Then where am I supposed to sleep now?" Jaejoong argued. Junsu smiled,
"You can always sleep with me in my bed."
-x-
"Your group is next. Are you going?"
Changmin shrugged, overlooking their dorm's courtyard, "If Jihyo isn't going, then I'm not going either."
Yunho nudged Changmin in the head with his fist, "Already that confident now that you know Jihyo likes you back?"
The latter looked away, glad that his blush was concealed by the night,
"Can you blame me? I just want to save myself for her."
Yunho nudged Changmin on the head again, "Are you a girl?"
Changmin growled, scrambling to fix his hair, "Stop touching me!"
"You do know that you'll receive a punishment if you miss a breeding session," Yunho said seriously. Changmin sighed,
"I know, but I'm prepared for that."
"I'll wait by your room. So meet me afterwards, okay?" Yunho squeezed Changmin's shoulder and the latter nodded,
"I'll do my best."
Yunho watched the boy leave back into the building. He waited a moment before heading over to the training room near the military training grounds. There, he found his floor officer waiting with arms crossed about his chest,
"You're late. You've been skipping your training sessions. The other officers are beginning to question your loyalty. Should I relieve you of your title since all you've done is abused it?"
"I've been practicing on my own," Yunho answered defiantly. Sungjong stepped closer,
"Then, you wouldn't mind showing me just how far you've trained by yourself?"
Yunho smirked, "Sure."
-x-
Jaejoong tossed and turned in the small space of Junsu's bed. The cuts on his body were being aggravated by the rough texture of the blanket. He sat up with irritation and looked over at where his soulmate slept. Could he even still call Yoochun, his? He barely remembered how close he used to be with the other boy, how they did everything together, shared things with each other that no one else knew. But now . . .
Just how did we become so far apart?
A groan from Junsu, snapped him back to the present. He looked down at the very boy who stood with him through the hard times, been there for him when Yoochun couldn't.
It's the reason why I chose you, Junsu-yah. Because you accepted me without any questions.
Jaejoong brushed his hand against Junsu's cheek before getting up from the bed and taking the bottle of ointment with him to the bathroom. One step out into the halls, he immediately heard soft mumbling at the end of the hall where the staircase was. He crept closer, trying to figure out just who was still up at this hour. Just as he came closer to the voices, the sound of footsteps began descending and so he followed the noise down the stairs. It wasn't until he stopped at the first floor, did he catch a glimpse of who it was.
"Yunho? Why is he --" Jaejoong froze in his spot at the familiar tall figure next to Yunho.
Changmin?
He willed his legs to follow, but he only made it to the entrance doors before stopping. He watched in horror as Yunho and Changmin crossed the border. He brought a shaking hand to his lips as he remembered a similiar situation two years ago.
-x-
"I trust you to cover for me, okay Jaejoong-ah?"
Jaejoong looked up with a frown. He knew that if he told his brother of the forbidden feelings he felt for him, it wouldn't change the fact that his brother was going to leave him to spend a few hours in the arms of a woman.
"You'll come back, right?"
Hyunjoong chuckled and ruffled Jaejoong's hair, "You're worrying for your twin? How many times have I done this now? I've never gotten caught, have I?"
Jaejoong shook his head and held his quilt tighter against his chest. Hyunjoong smiled,
"Now, if inspection were to ask where I am, you will say?"
"Bathroom," Jaejoong answered. Hyunjoong laughed once again,
"Good. Now, I have to go or Minah will get angry at me."
Jaejoong clutched at his twin's pants just as the other rose from the bed, "Wait."
"Hm? What is it?"
"I love you," Jaejoong whispered with clenched eyes. Hyunjoong laughed again,
"I love you too, Jaejoong-ah."
-x-
"Hyunjoong . . . Don't leave . . . Please don't . . ." Jaejoong whispered, pressing his hands against the cool glass. His eyes glazed over at the distant memory.
-x-
"Where's Hyunjoong?"
Jaejoong rubbed his eyes of sleep and stared at his floor officer, then he looked over at his twin brother's empty bed,
"He went to the bathroom."
"I see," the man said.
"Seungri, sir! We've spotted Kim Hyunjoong at the border! It seemed like he snuck out during the night!" an officer reported at the door. Jaejoong froze on the bed.
Seungri turned to Jaejoong with a glare, "So you've lied to me."
"What should we do with Kim Hyunjoong, sir?" the officer asked. Seungri grinned,
"We kill him of course. Whoever decides to ignore our rules, should be killed. We don't want other people copying what he's doing. This way, people will know exactly what's going to happen to them if they defy us."
-x-
"Save him . . . Please, save Hyunjoong. Save . . ." Jaejoong gasped and tore himself away from the glass door. He rushed back to his room and tried shaking Junsu awake,
"Junsu, wake up! Wake up! Please, you have to save Hyunjoong! He's -- He's going to the border. He's -- Please, Junsu!"
Yoochun woke up at the screams. He looked over to see Jaejoong awake and tears running down his cheeks. Junsu finally jolted awake,
"Jaejoong?"
"Hyunjoong! He's gone to the border! You have to save him! Seungri, he's --" Jaejoong sobbed. Junsu pulled the older boy to his chest and noticed Yoochun staring at them.
"Save him, Junsu! Please, I can't -- He can't die!"
"Jaejoong . . ." Junsu whispered.
"Please!" Jaejoong shouted. Yoochun could tell how distressed Jaejoong looked and Junsu's expression wasn't far from it either. He wanted to ask what was wrong. He had heard the name Hyunjoong before, having been roommates with Jaejoong. It was a name that would tumble from the older boy's lips in his sleep. But he figured that it was nothing, since there was no such person with the name Hyunjoong in their dorm.
"Okay. I'll make sure to bring him back," Junsu soothed his crying boyfriend. He turned to Yoochun,
"Will you watch over him? Make sure that he doesn't do anything drastic?"
Yoochun stood in confusion, "Okay . . . But --"
"I . . . I can't tell you what's happening. But when this is all over, please promise me that you won't ever bring up this night in front of Jaejoong again."
Yoochun nodded and waited until Junsu left the room before sitting hesitantly next to Jaejoong. His heart stung at the sight of his soulmate in pain and he didn't know what was happening to soothe the situation.
I'm not being a good soulmate to you lately, have I? I feel so ashamed that Junsu knows this side of you than I do, this vulnerable side . . . What happened, Jaejoong? What happened to make you this way?
-x-
Yunho waited in the shadows when he found Changmin being pulled forward by his floor offficer. The man pushed Changmin to the ground,
"This is the second time that you've crossed paths with me. You may be good in your academic studies, but your curious and rebellious nature is something that we can't tolerate. Don't make this mistake again, this is my last warning to you."
Yunho watched Changmin nod weakly and the floor officer walked back the way he came. When Changmin stood up with a wince, Yunho walked out from the corner, surprising the younger boy. Yunho smirked,
"Why are you jumpy? I did tell you that I would be waiting for you."
At a close distance, Yunho could finally see how serious the injuries were. He brushed his thumb over the red bruise forming at the corner of the boy's mouth.
Changmin jerked away with a glare,
"Hyung."
Yunho smiled, "Sorry. But I don't think you can visit Jihyo wearing clothes spotted with blood. I'll wait out here while you go in and change."
"Yeah, be right back," Changmin said and closed the door behind him. After a few minutes, Changmin emerged with a dark set of clothing,
"This is to help me camoflauge."
"Then let's go," Yunho jerked his head towards the staircase.
"But what about your training?" Changmin asked. Yunho chuckled,
"I showed them that I am more qualified than they thought I would be. I believe
they'll start to trust me from now on."
"You really are amazing. I wonder why you do your best in everything else and not with Yoochun?" Changmin questioned.
"Can we not talk about Yoochun right now?" Yunho said exasperately.
"Why? Did you really do something wrong like I thought?" Changmin answered
flippantly. Yunho disregarded the tone,
"That's because . . ."
"Because?"
"I didn't want him to blow my cover. I was finally trusted by the higher-ups and it was the only thing I could do to make them believe that I was on their side. I didn't mean to betray Yoochun. Because of that, we started avoiding each other. I want to apologize, but not until I can finally see some change happening."
Changmin patted Yunho on the shoulder, "You should hurry with this plan of yours. It's causing Yoochun to self-destruct. Without you by his side to keep him in control, he's picking fights with people that care about him."
"I'm trying and Jihyo is trying as well," Yunho said and they both hurried down the staircase to the first floor. They carefully looked around for any roaming security guards making their rounds before rushing out of the building and across the courtyard where they finally stepped onto the women's territory.
"So where did you say that Jihyo is meeting us again?" Changmin asked and Yunho took them past a few trees to the watch tower where Yuri had shown him before. There, they could see a faint light in the building.
"Go, I'll stand watch just in case."
"You sure?"
Yunho nodded and pushed Changmin forward, "Go or Jihyo might think you're standing her up."
Changmin let out a puff of laughter and walked up the steps to the building. He let out a shuddering breath of nervousness before turning the doorknob.
Immediately he found the older woman sitting by the only desk in the room. When they both made eye contact, their bodies gravitate towards each other and
Changmin pulled Jihyo into a hug.
"Changmin, it's you."
"Jihyo-nuna . . ."
"What happened to your face? Did your floor officer hit you?" Jihyo brushed her fingers over the bruise near his mouth. He softly took her hands in his,
"It's fine."
"Don't tell me you missed the breeding session?"
Changmin was elated that he was finally having a proper conversation with the woman he loved. He had been dreaming about this moment since last year and he was now getting his wish. Changmin shrugged,
"I felt it was unnecessary now, since I get to spend time with you."
Jihyo bit her lip in a scowl, "Don't ever do that again. You must continue to go to these breeding sessions."
"But why? You're the only one I want."
Jihyo turned around with arms crossed about her chest, "You can't raise suspicion with your floor officers or any other officers. Please, promise me that you'll continue to go to these sessions."
"Then, are you going to these breeding sessions as well? Did you tonight?"
Changmin questioned albiet harshly. Jihyo noted the tone and fired back,
"I will continue to do what the government wants me to do."
"I heard what you and Yunho talked about. That this is all a front so that you can change the rules and give the people freedom," Changmin said. Jihyo narrowed her eyes,
"Yes, everything I do, it's for the people's freedom and nothing more."
"So, you'll continue to give your body to random men, despite knowing my feelings for you?" Changmin sneered.
"Because it is my job and also yours to give our bodies for the sake of the government and their plan to increase our population number," Jihyo finalized.
-x-
Yunho looked up with a smile when the door opened and both Changmin and Jihyo descend down the stairs. He pushed away from the tree and greeted Jihyo with a nod of his head,
"Should we get going?"
"Yes," Jihyo answered and Yunho noticed a bit of distance between the two of them and knew that the talk didn't turn out quite as he had planned. He expected Changmin to come out smiling, but instead the boy looked lost in his thoughts.
"I'll leave this way. Sorry I can't walk you two back to the border," Jihyo apologized. Yunho waved it away,
"It's okay. We are on your territory, so we should leave."
"Bye, Changmin," Jihyo said with a small smile. Changmin gave a grunt but continue to stare the other way. Yunho nudged Changmin in the shoulder but Jihyo chuckled,
"That's okay. Hopefully the next time we meet, you'll have a clear view of things."
Changmin clenched his hands at his side and waited until Jihyo retreating footsteps were heard no more before he let out a scoff.
"Okay, what's wrong with you?"
"Yunho, you've fallen in love, right? The forbidden feeling that the government wants us to never feel?" Changmin asked.
"Yes, but what's that got to do with --" Yunho started but Changmin cut him off,
"Does it sometimes make you want to control a person?"
"I don't quite understand what you mean, Changmin-ah."
Changmin turned to Yunho, "I feel this sense of wanting to control Jihyo. And I know it's bad with the way Jihyo reacted to me back there. So I want to know if Love is really worth fighting for, if all it does is make you want to control the person that you love?"
"That's a sign of possessiveness," Yunho answered when he finally understood what the boy meant. They both walked back to their dorm building and made sure that no one was around, before entering through the entrance doors. Changmin cocked his head,
"Possessiveness? What's that?"
"When you won't share someone or something with other people."
"So, I'm possessive over Jihyo?" Changmin wondered in confusion. Yunho nodded,
"It seems that way."
"Then, it's a bad thing to be possessive?"
"It can be a little too much for the other person, but I can help you tone it down. So, what do you say to some breakfast? It's almost that time," Yunho offered. Changmin smiled,
"I'm hungry after all that information I learned."
Yunho clapped Changmin on the shoulder and they both entered the Dining Hall.
-x-
Junsu sighed in relief when he spotted Yunho and Changmin entering through the doors. He waited until they both entered the Dining Hall before returning back to his room to report the news to Jaejoong.
"Jae?"
The older boy looked up with dazed eyes. Junsu knelt in front of Jaejoong with a smile,
"Chang-- Hyunjoong has returned safely. He's not in danger anymore."
"Really?" The older boy breathed. Yoochun looked down at his soulmate when he felt the body relax in his arms and a heaviness settled on his shoulder.
Jaejoong was finally able to go back to sleep.
"To Jaejoong, what happened tonight was all a dream, because the reality has already happened. We can't ever bring Hyunjoong back from the dead," Junsu said when he stood back up. Yoochun laid Jaejoong down on Junsu's bed and covered the older boy with the blanket. He turned to Junsu,
"Can't you tell me? As his soulmate, his best friend, don't I have the right to know?"
"Even if I tell you, would it make a difference? There's a reason why Jaejoong chose not to tell you."
"What are you trying to say?" Yoochun growled. He didn't like the fact that Jaejoong chose to tell a stranger rather than someone who grew up with him. Sure he didn't know who Hyunjoong was, but was it his fault? What was wrong with him that Jaejoong didn't trust?
"I'm saying that you should stay out of it. It was unfortunate that you were here to witness this. No one should've witnessed this side of Jaejoong. It was supposed to be between me and Jaejoong," Junsu said. Yoochun gripped the front of Junsu's shirt,
"I should have never allowed you to come between me and Jaejoong."
"So does this mean that you won't come back to confide in me?" Junsu smirked. Yoochun pushed the latter away and walked out of the room. Junsu sat down next to Jaejoong's sleeping figure with a sigh,
"You really are trouble, aren't you?"
