"You know ... you're starting to remind me of Taeyang's students," Changmin's floor officer said, all the while circling around the young teen slowly, "They have an annoying habit of disappearing from their duties. I guess all the punishments Taeyang gave them, haven't sunken in yet. Maybe after tonight, things will eventually change for the better."
Zhou Mi sat on his hunches next to Changmin's ragged form and leaned in,
"Aren't you curious about what they're doing right now?"
Changmin breathed in shakily and avoided the man's gaze. The man only chuckled and leaned away, standing up to his full height. In the next second, he snarled and kicked Changmin to the ground,
"However, their ultimate punishment isn't for someone like you, because unlike them, you're normal like the rest of us. Instead, I'm determined to find the very person who planted this idea of rebellion in your head and punish them. I've seen you grow up, Changmin-ah. I know what kind of person you are, and you aren't the type of person who would disobey your authorities. So tell me, who is it and maybe I'll make your future punishments lighter?"
Changmin wanted to sneer at his floor officer's coo, but he held back his retort with a bite of his bottom lip.
"Do we have a deal?" the man crouched down next to him again and slung an arm around the boy's shoulder. Changmin let out a growl of annoyance at the skinship and Zhou Mi reacted by shoving him harshly in the face and used the sole of his shoe to grind the boy's cheek to the ground,
"I guess being nice never works. It's only under the threat of punishment that people eventually listen. You know why that is? It's because the human brain sends a signal down to the rest of the body to flee in the presence of danger. It is because of that natural response, that humans respond with compliance to those in power."
The man ground his sole even harder into the flesh until he heard a cry from the boy. He grinned at the sound and slowly took his foot off the boy in content. Then he turned his attention to the other two men in the room,
"I expect you two to do a good job this time around and when you're done teaching him a lesson, bring him back to his dorm room. I have somewhere I need to be right now."
"Yes, sir!" the two men chorused. Changmin struggled to move from his position on the floor and managed to grasp at his floor officer's pants just as the man walked past him,
"Wait ... Wh-What are you going to do to that person?"
"You don't have to worry about that, Changmin. Why don't you just focus on what these two are going to do to you, so that you can reflect on what you shouldn't do for future reference, okay?" the man smiled, patting Changmin on the head before jerking his leg from the boy's grasp and leaving the basement without a look back.
Changmin let himself fall back onto the ground just as the two men began their assault on him with swift kicks to his ribs and bashing their metal bars against his back. He made a promise to himself as his punishment continued, that no matter what, he'd do anything to avoid going back down to the basement again. Not for Yunho or anyone else ever again.

Kibum let out a sigh when he stepped into his dorm room that he shared with Changmin and found the other boy still not back from his punishment. He had just returned from his military duties a few minutes ago and was now back in his room after a quick shower.
Kibum paced around the room in concern, occasionally glancing at the digital clock on the desk between the two beds. He hoped that Changmin got off lucky and wasn't hurt as much. When the door to the room finally opened half an hour later, he found Changmin unconscious and in the arms of a security guard.
"I-Is he dead?" Kibum asked, frozen in his spot as the security guard stepped into the room and dumped Changmin's body unceremoniously on the boy's bed before leaving to exit the room.
"Wait, doesn't he need first aid?" Kibum asked the man. The security guard momentarily stopped at the doorway and replied,
"It is your responsibility to check whether or not your roommate needs it."
Kibum furrowed his brow with worry at the cold response and quickly stood by the bed, vaguely hearing the door closed shut, while he inspected Changmin's body for external injuries, but all he could find were large purpled bruises. He knelt down on the floor with a relieved sigh and stared at his best friend,
"If only you hadn't disobeyed them, then this wouldn't have happened. What will your mother say when she sees what you're doing now? Her heart will be broken."
With a frown, Kibum tucked the other boy comfortably under the covers and headed to bed himself. He decided to wait until tomorrow morning to see how much damage Changmin had received during his punishment. He turned his head in the direction where Changmin was sleeping and sighed,
"I guess I have to go down to the pharmacy tomorrow and get some ointment for those bruises ..."
He snuggled deeper under the covers and finally fell asleep.

Yoochun followed his peers back to the dorm building where they all separated to each of their respected duties, whether it was to their night classes, the Dining Hall to eat dinner, or going back to their dorm room for a good night's rest. Instead of going straight to bed, he decided to go to the library where he knew the place was practically empty with a few people still around studying and pulled out the note that Yunho had secretly handed to him.
He settled in a comfy spot he found tucked away in the furthest corner of the library where no one would bother him and took out the note he got from Yunho. Making sure once more that there was no one around, he opened the note to see Yunho's familiar handwriting.
There's something we need to talk about. Could you wait up for me in our room? I have a meeting to attend to after my breeding session is over and it's important that we have this talk before this misunderstanding between us gets any bigger.
At the words, dread filled his chest and for a second, Yoochun contemplated on sleeping early and avoid the talk with Yunho, hoping that they could postpone it for another day when he was emotionally ready to deal with the confrontation. But he sucked in a breath and shook his head, deciding that he was going to go through with it even though at the thought of having an unpleasant conversation with the other boy, made him nauseous. He stood up and pocketed the note back into his pants and headed out of the library.
He headed to the elevators and pressed the UP button. The silence while he waited for the elevator doors to open, began to nag at his mind, doubling his anxiety even more.
Breathe, Yoochun. It's just a talk between you and your boyfriend over a betrayal he did to you a month ago. You're just there to listen to his side of the story and that's it.
The ding of the elevator alerted him back to the present and he stepped into the lift and pressed the button for the second floor. When he arrived at his floor seconds later, he stepped out into the hall and headed to his dorm room that he shared with Yunho and was thankful upon opening the door, that the other boy wasn't back from his military duties. He sat down on his bed with nervous hesitation, wondering to himself why he was feeling such agitation over nothing.
Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. I knew it. I can't do this. I can't do it.
Yoochun stood up abruptly and made a beeline for the door, just as the door opened to reveal Yunho on the other side coming in. He froze in mid-step before taking a step back just as the other boy entered the room, closing the door shut behind him. Yunho frowned at his boyfriend's stiff form,
"Were you going to leave?"
Yoochun looked away at being caught red-handed and decided to return back to his spot on the bed in case he collapsed from the jittery nerves that he suddenly felt. Yunho took a seat on his own bed across from the other boy and leaned forward until he was able to rest his arms on his thighs,
"So ... How have you been?"
"Fine," Yoochun answered easily. Yunho acknowledged the short answer with a nod and waited for the conversation to keep going, but when all he got was silence from the other boy, he realized just how distant they've become. He cocked his head to the side and anxiously quirked his lips into a smile as he stared at his boyfriend,
"Aren't you going to ask about me?"
Yoochun glanced over at Yunho before returning his gaze down on his lap,
"I can see that you're fine, so why should I ask?"
Yunho could only smile awkwardly at the lack of warmth in the other's words,
"You hurt me, Yoochun."
Yoochun let out a sigh and sat up straighter, staring right at the other boy, the butterflies in his stomach were almost gone,
"So, what is it that you wanted to talk to me about?"
"I wanted to clear this misunderstanding that we have between us. I don't want to leave things as they are until it's too late to fix things. That's why I brought this," Yunho leaned forward to hand Yoochun a piece of paper. Yoochun reached out to receive it,
"What's this?"
"It's the letter that I wrote to you the night after the incident. I found it between the desk and your bed while I was cleaning the room a few days ago," Yunho confessed.
Yoochun stared warily at the other boy before looking down at the note, then back up,
"And how do I know that this note was from back then? You could've forged it today."
Yunho nodded in defeat,
"You're right. It's natural for you to be suspicious since there's no date on the note to indicate that it was from that night, but can't you trust me enough to believe that this was from that time?"
Yoochun looked down at the note again and read over the words for a second time. It clearly stated that Yunho was in a rush to be somewhere and that he would try to come back before dawn. Yoochun closed his eyes and let out a sigh,
"Let's just say that this note was from that night, then could you tell me where you were, that you needed to leave a note behind? Apparently the place had to been far from the dorm building or else you would've been able to return before Sungjong came to check the rooms."
"I was ..." Yunho hesitated, " ... I was with Changmin that night. He asked me for help and I couldn't say no to him."
"And what did Changmin ask you to help him with?" Yoochun questioned. Whatever Yunho's answer was, was the deciding factor on whether or not he could trust Yunho again. He had all the information he needed from Changmin and if Yunho's answers didn't match up, then he would know that Yunho was hiding something.
" ... He asked me to use my military connection to take him past the border to the female side," Yunho answered. Yoochun nodded slowly,
"To see the girl he's been thinking about? What was her name again?"
"Song Jihyo," Yunho answered, "But we were almost caught by the security guards that day, that's why I wasn't able to return before dawn. At least you weren't punished for that because I was able to give them a good excuse as to where I was."
Yoochun couldn't help but let out a scoff of disbelief from his lips,
"You're glad for that? Then what about the incident hours earlier where you put the blame on me? What? I forced you?"
Yunho remembered that moment perfectly and he lowered his eyes in apology, "I'm sorry about that. At the time, everything was so sudden and the words just came out."
"You don't seem to be sorry about it. You've never tried to comfort me at all since that day. So, how can I believe that you're genuinely sorry about the punishment I received for forcing myself on you, a government officer?" Yoochun bit out.
Yunho stood up and stepped forward, his hands reaching out to grasp the other boy's in his, but Yoochun flinched away at the last second and gave a wary glare. Yunho retreated back to his seat at the rejection and remained quiet. Yoochun cleared his throat,
"Since you sold your boyfriend out, is the military life better?"
"Life doesn't seem to feel any different from when I wasn't a military officer. The only thing noticeably different from before, is that now I don't have enough time in the day to spend with you as I used to and it feels like the relationship between us has gone back to the days when we were strangers to each other and it's uncomfortable for me to feel that way with us," Yunho whispered. Yoochun was quiet and he didn't want Yunho to see how much the confession had affected him, so he decided to change the topic,
"Is that all the secrets you have?"
"I ... This is something that I haven't even shared with Jaejoong or Junsu yet. I've only recently shared this with Changmin," Yunho said and Yoochun bristled in jealousy at the boy's name,
"You know ... it's funny. You've been mentioning Changmin's name in all of your confessions. I'm wondering if Changmin is someone special to you now? First, it was Jaejoong and now it's you. Should I keep a close eye on the boy as well?"
"What Changmin is to Jaejoong and what Changmin is to me, is totally different. Changmin is like my little brother that I want to help and protect, there's no other reasoning than that," Yunho promised.
"However, I see it differently. There is some glaring similarities between the two of you. Especially in the way that you see him as more than just a friend," Yoochun countered.
Yunho crinkled his brow, "What do you mean?"
Yunho always thought that whatever Jaejoong felt for Changmin was not an obsession of being close to the other boy, but of a more romantic feeling. And apparently, Yoochun thought differently.
"It's natural to think that in the short time Jaejoong had expressed his want for Changmin, the action could easily be seen as an unhealthy obsession of love. But after digging a little deeper, the truth turned out to be more heartbreaking than it seemed," Yoochun said with a frown.
"And what's the truth?" Yunho wondered.
"Jaejoong ... He had a fraternal twin brother and two years ago, he died. The cause of his death was because of his greed for love. To this day, Jaejoong still hates the word called Love. Apparently, his brother fell in love with a woman and did everything he could to see her and then one day, he was seen by a fellow student and that student eventually alerted the security guards. The floor officer in charge of Jaejoong's brother heard the news and immediately made an order to kill him on the spot. They wanted to quickly dispose of the student. They feared that if they left him alive, his disease of love would spread to the people around him and create a rebellion that would try to overthrow the government."
"You mean ...?"
"Jaejoong wants to protect Changmin because he reminds him of his past with his brother and he'd do anything to make sure that the boy doesn't end up with the same fate as his brother," Yoochun said.
"I see ..." Yunho frowned, "Then it is as you've said. Our situation is similar."
Yoochun watched the other boy ponder his story for a bit before speaking up once again,
"So, what was this something that you wanted to tell me earlier?"
"Do you remember the day I met with Sungjong and agreed to be Sergeant Major? Even though I gave you an excuse that he gave me the next breeding week off?" Yunho whispered, taking a hesitant glance at the other boy.
" ... Yes ..." Yoochun visibly tensed.
"The reason why I decided to get the position, was because I wanted to change how the government was run. Before that day, I didn't know how I was going to achieve my dream. But when Sungjong proposed a position for me in the military, I couldn't say no. One day when I rise up to the top ranks, I'm planning on overthrowing the government," Yunho finally confessed. Yoochun almost jumped out of his seat at the words,
"What the -- Why are you doing that? Aren't you afraid of death?"
"If I stop to think about it, then the thought of death would definitely consume me. But my desire to build a society where love prevails and where people aren't afraid of the consequences for their actions, is what's keeping me moving forward," Yunho said.
"Do you think a world full of love will be anything different than what we have now? Without any type of structure, our actions based on this sense of freedom, will create just as much chaos. We'll go through life having this feeling of entitlement that whatever we do must be correct even though based on the rules of our current strict government, it's basically wrong," Yoochun rebutted.
"Then do you like how we're living right now? You get angry at the sight of others being in unfair situations. You hate people being punished for no reason. So why can't I change the way things are happening to a more better, peaceful world?" Yunho asked. Yoochun shot up from his seat,
"Because!"
"Because?" Yunho inquired. Yoochun slowly sat back down,
"Because we need a balance. I'm not saying that what we have is a good thing. I still hate it. But it's like the saying goes, if there's too much structure, we end up feeling stuffy and we start looking for ways to rebel and get the freedom we crave. While if there's too much love, too much freedom, then how will we know what's right from wrong? We need to be able to have a little bit of both the structure and freedom to keep everyone satisfied. Like a little mistake such as talking out of line or not being back before curfew, won't get you punished or killed, but cheating -- " Yoochun froze in mid-sentence at the sudden flash of Seungri's face in his head.
"What happens when someone cheats?" Yunho questioned. Yoochun clutched his hands together tight in his lap,
" ... They will get punished accordingly ..."
"I see," Yunho nod in understanding, "That's an interesting idea. You don't mind if I bring it to a few other people and see what they think of it?"
"What?" Yoochun looked up, "Oh ... Uh ... Sure."
"So, I told you everything that's been going on with me. How about you? What have you been up to lately?" Yunho finally asked.
" ... Nothing much. I've been busy trying to find out what happened with Jaejoong's twin brother, that's all," Yoochun answered.
Yunho frowned, "Did Jaejoong ask you to help him find his brother's perpetrator?"
"No. But I wanted to ease his pain. As his friend, it's the least I could do for him."
Yunho stood up from his seat and crossed the room to stand before the other boy and laid a hand on the other's shoulder,
"I'm sure Jaejoong will be grateful if you did that."
"Yeah," Yoochun smiled lightly, then tensed up when Yunho hesitantly sat down in the spot next to him and grabbed his right hand in an assuring grip,
"So ... Are we okay now?"
Yoochun was quiet. He had finally heard Yunho's side of the story and it matched perfectly with what Changmin told him, but he still couldn't go back to the time when everything was pure and innocent between them.
Yoochun pulled his hand free from the other boy's hold,
"I'm sorry ... But I need some time."
"Oh ... O-Okay," Yunho complied with a strained smile and moved his hand back onto his lap in disappointment.
"Can we go to bed now? I have an early class tomorrow," Yoochun whispered suddenly.
"R-Right ..." Yunho stood up and scratched the back of his head nervously and watched in silence as Yoochun moved to situate himself comfortably under the covers. Once Yoochun closed his eyes, Yunho turned his back to the other boy and turned off the light,
"Goodnight."

"D-Did you want something? Your favorite slushie before bed?" Junsu tried, wincing when Jaejoong remained silent and unblinking. They had just been released from their punishment and on the way out, they had bumped into an unconscious Changmin with a security guard carrying him bridal-style in the opposite direction. He was glad that Jaejoong was out of it, his panic attack earlier had thrown him into a sort of catatonic state. Otherwise, he knew that Jaejoong would've definitely caused a scene at the sight of the younger boy being carried out from one of the basement rooms.
Junsu continued to guide the older boy to their dorm room and forced the boy to stop in the middle of the hallway,
"Wait here. I'll get our clothes and then we'll take a shower before heading to bed."
He quickly entered their shared room and gathered their pajamas before returning, thankful that Jaejoong had remained where he was.
"Got them," Junsu said upon his arrival, showing the other boy their pajamas even though he knew that Jaejoong was far too gone to be in the present. He closed the door behind him and led the other boy back down the hallway to the shared bathroom.
Once they got there, Junsu stood Jaejoong in the shower stall and began to strip the other boy of his clothes until Jaejoong stood there naked. He reached behind the other boy to turn on the water and stuck his hand under the spray to test the temperature. When the water was finally warm to the touch, he guided Jaejoong under it and let the boy's hair soak. He picked up the shampoo he brought from their dorm room and squeezed a good amount onto his palm and began lathering it to a foam. Junsu stood in front of the other boy and scrubbed the shampoo into the other's scalp, silently liking how docile Jaejoong was. It reminded him of the time when Changmin had been shocked into a familiar state.
"Can you close your eyes for me, Jaejoong?" Junsu asked, but when Jaejoong remained unmoving, he frowned. He had liked the initial silence, but now, seeing how the other boy couldn't even do the simplest of tasks, he felt saddened.
Junsu ran his right hand under the spray to wash off the suds before manually closing the other's eyes before rinsing the soap off from the other's head. After the suds were washed off completely, Junsu moved to wash his boyfriend's body with a loofah. It had only been five minutes, but the silence felt deafening and he wished that Jaejoong would hurry up and return to normal.
"Done," Junsu whispered, making sure that there weren't any stray suds left before he toweled the other boy off and helping Jaejoong into his pajamas.
"Wait here. Let me take a shower first and then we can go to bed," Junsu said, before taking a quick shower, afraid that if he left the other boy alone for even a second, he would disappear without a word. But once he exited the shower stall, Jaejoong stood where he was, his eyes closed as he left it. Junsu breathed out a sigh of relief and slipped into his own pajamas,
"You must be cold. Let's go to bed now."
That night, he let Jaejoong cuddle up next to him.
